Pastor John David Wright was born on July 14, 1978, the third of five sons to bless the union of Gospel legend, Rev. Timothy Wright and Evangelist Betty Wright. In early 1995, this sixteen-year-old young man began playing the organ with no classical training or conventional lessons, but instead, purely by the anointing of God after a 3-day shut-in and prayer. He played, he prayed and God performed. Since that experience, Pastor David Wright has become an accomplished musician, having worked with the late James Moore, Kim Burrell, Betty Nelson, Ricky Dillard, James Hall, Dorothy Norwood, and many others. His gift has allowed him to travel the world, and play before audiences which included Pope John Paul II in 2000. In 1997, Davey, as he is affectionately known, had played on his first live recording: Rev. Timothy Wright and the B.J. Mass Choir’s Been There Done That. Pastor Wright has been featured on more than a dozen gospel albums as both musician and producer, the latter of which has led to six Stellar Awards nominations for New York Fellowship’s Live In New York (2003), Let’s Celebrate (2004), and the Grammy-nominated Jesus, Jesus, Jesus (2007). Continuing his father’s legacy, Pastor Wright stepped into the role of recording artist, and with his four brothers, Danny, Donny, Derrick and Dwayne, formed The DW Project in December 2004. Though initially an instrumental band, when the brothers decided to add vocals to their authentic sound, the response was tremendous. The DW Project released its first self-titled CD in 2008, a youthful, soulful mix of contemporary gospel music with a clear foundation in the traditional sound for which the late Rev. Timothy Wright is known. Pastor David Wright served as the primary songwriter for the group. His songwriting style mixes Praise & Worship with Traditional Gospel, which has inspired, encouraged, shifted atmospheres, and stirred up worship in every setting the group has ministered.
